BRIAN

Brian has been an editor since 2015. He’s done copy editing, developmental editing, and manuscript preparation, and he’s worked on high school textbooks, academic papers, business proposals, government reports, military project plans, romance novels, horror stories, science fiction books, memoirs, and self-help books, among other things.

He went to Ohio State and has a bachelor’s degree in computer science, and he had an IT career for seven years before switching to editing. He’s lived in Ohio most of his life. He’s also worked as a tutor from time to time, teaching GED skills as well as college-level calculus.

Brian gets fascinated by a lot of different things. Past obsessions have included abstract algebra, 3D modeling, the Byzantine Empire, the Voynich Manuscript, the board game Go, alchemy, Zoroastrianism, calligraphy, biblical scholarship, astronomy, Morse code, skydiving, the works of Lewis Carroll, and Lake Baikal. Ongoing interests include etymology, artificial intelligence, the US Constitution, editing images with Paint.NET, ethics, philanthropy, and fiction writing. If you said he was a nerd, he wouldn’t call you a liar.

If I weren’t a writer/editor I would be: a software developer.

My morning routine is: help my son get ready for the day, coffee and breakfast, work.

I most admire: anyone who’s sensitive enough to care about other people’s problems and thick-skinned enough to do something about them.

My superpower is: connecting the world of numbers, science, and technology with the world of art, writing, and people. Oh, and I’m really good at seeing those Magic Eye pictures — do they still make those?
