Alan

ALAN

Alan has written and edited educational products for most of his adult life. For more than 25 years he’s authored materials associated with leading textbooks in general, social, developmental, and abnormal psychology, and authored or edited: Internet content, video collections, test item files, instructor’s resources, audible study guides, PowerPoint collections, and even transparency masters.

Alan was born and raised in San Francisco and earned a PhD in social psychology from the University of Texas at Austin. He has taught at UT, Loyola Marymount University, and UCLA, and he spent a semester as a Visiting Scholar at Harvard University. He is currently professor and chair of the psychology department at St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas, where he has received several awards for teaching, research, and advising. He was named the Texas Professor of the Year by The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education.

Alan lives in Austin and enjoys all it has to offer: food, music, nature, and a general vibe of weirdness.

If I weren’t a writer/editor I would be: a university professor. Wait a minute…I’d probably be a drummer in a punk rock band, or an architect.

My morning routine is: waking up.

I most admire: my daughter Casey. When she was quite young I told her, “You are the best person I’ll ever know,” and it is as true now as it was then.

My superpower is: invisibility.
